From the depths of the Earth rises a pale-blue androgynous being. On the angel's head a golden egg; along the trumpet 22 steps are traced, by which a dark-blue disc of awareness ascends. The woman looks at the man and/or the child, the man has raised his eyes to heaven, the angel looks directly at us — its action is addressed to all.

Waite gives a Christian scene of resurrection: the archangel Gabriel with a trumpet and a red cross on the banner, the dead rising from graves with raised hands, a banner hanging from the trumpet — the Last Judgment and the awakening to eternal life. The Marseille Judgement is close in image but in our system it is read as the birth of consciousness and the call of vocation: the trumpeting angel announces an irresistible desire, the androgynous being rises from the earth. Waite emphasizes religious resurrection and evaluation; Marseille emphasizes the calling: when this card falls, the person has been called, and resistance to the call creates difficulties.
